4th of May – Star Wars Day

On the 4th of May, fans of the world famous Star Wars movie celebrate an informal, but no less interesting, holiday - Star Wars Day or Luke Skywalker Day.

The date was chosen for the fun game of words: there is a famous phrase from this movie: may the force be with you, so May the fourth is the best day for the fans to unite and have lots of fun together.

The first film of the saga was released on May 25, 1977, but it managed to get to the USSR only in 1988. Besides, in 2007 on the 20 anniversary of the movie the official day for this saga was set on the 25th of May, but fans keep on sticking to the 4th.

The first mass celebration of Star Wars Day was held in 2011 in Toronto (Canada), accompanied by a costume procession, video and show program. Since then, the holiday has been organized annually, and its dissemination is helped, including by activity in social networks.

On May 4, Star Wars fans watch their favorite movies, arrange costume shows and flash mobs, read magazines and comics dedicated to the saga heroes, play computer games. After all, today “Star Wars” is not only the movie itself consisting of several “series” but also a cartoon, comics, computer games, toys, things with the image of heroes, etc.
