Western Easter VS Eastern Easter

Easter is coming, and everyone is waiting for this bright holiday all over the world. Ukrainian women are also celebrating this day on the 16^th of April. There are several differences between Slavic and Western types of celebration of Easter.

In Ukraine, families wake up early to end their fast which lasted for 7 weeks. Of course, not everyone sticks to this rule nowadays, as it is really hard. After this, they all go to the church to Easter services which last for several hours. If you visit Ukraine these days, you will see lots of people waiting for the possibility to enter a church.

After this, people come back home and start the Easter feast. After the long fast they are finally allowed to eat absolutely everything. Ladies bake wonderful cakes called paskhas and treat each other with them. They also make colored eggs.

After the feast is over, everyone gathers to visit each other. As the holiday is on Sunday, people have rest. Besides, on Monday it is always an official holiday. And it is important to treat your relatives and best friends with eggs and paskhas. The best option is if you have previously blessed them in church.

Western Easter is a little bit different. Of course, here also goes visiting of the church and coloring eggs, but no one makes paskhas. It is believed that this round cake is the remnant of pagan cult or Slavic people.

People spend more time with children. Painted eggs are used for various games, for example, for egg hunt. Children adore this game and love to try to beat each other in gathering the bigger amount of them.

Another element that is not present in Slavic Easter is the Easter Bunny. It is believed that it appeared from old European tales which told that various animals were hiding eggs in grass for good children. For example, in Germany it was done by a fox.

And, of course, everyone also goes to visit relatives to spend good time together and enjoy tasty meals and vacation.

So, as you can see, in Ukraine this holiday has much more religious background, but this doesn't mean that you can't celebrate it with your lady on Veronikalove, as you can choose various gifts to send her and say with the present how much you love her!
