14th of May – Mother’s Day

Mothers are the dearest people in our life. They bring us into this world and teach us how to go through it from the very first step and until they have strength. The should be praised every day and every minute for the work they do and for the whole love they bring us. However, there is also a special day when all mothers can be congratulated officially – the 14th of May. It is celebrated all over the world, in all European countries, in the USA and in Japan and China.

Actually, this holiday is quite old. Its roots come to the ancient times when Greeks were praising their goddess Rhea, mother of Zeus. Later, approximately in the 17th century, in England, there was the Mother's Sunday. It was celebrated the fourth Sunday of the Fasting. People were not working, and they always were vising their families and giving various gifts to mothers.

The modern Mother's Day was established in 1910 year in the USA. Back in 1907 the young lady Anna Jarvis offered to praise all mothers to commemorate her own mother who passed away. The initiative took time, but in 3 years was accepted by the Virginia state. There this holiday became official. And then, in 1914, it became official all over the USA.

This is a very touching and important holiday. We should never forget about the person who made everything for us to let us be who we are. Mothers form our personality and support during the whole life. We are sure, that you also understand this well and please your mother not only some particular day, but help her any moment she needs this.

Each lady, no matter how old is she, will one day become mother. Bringing a child to this world is the sacred mission of each woman, especially for Slavic ladies.
