18th of June – Father’s Day

Parents are the most important people in everyone's life. Without them we would have been no one in this world apart from the fact that we wouldn't simply exist. Usually, it is widespread to praise mothers. We all know about the Mother's day. But there is also the day of fathers that is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. Because fathers are also the immovable pillows that support children and help them grow up the real people! This year the holiday will be celebrated on the 18^th.

The country of the origin of this holiday is the USA. It was first mentioned in 1909 year. This means that the holiday is really old! And surprisingly it was “invented” by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd. When she was in a church, she told about her father. William Jackson Smart was an outstanding person. After his wife died, he managed to bring up five children all alone! And to thank him for his deed, Sonora refer to the local authorities and asked for the possibility to create a holiday.

They couldn't refuse her. This man was really worth remembering for his devotion and strength. They were offered the date – the 5^th of June which was the birthday of this person, but they didn't have enough time to prepare everything, so moved the date to the 19^th of June.

After a while, the Father's day became popular in all other states of the USA. But with time, it was decided to make the date “floating” and the holiday moved to the third Sunday of June. It is also celebrated all over the world, but different countries have slightly other dates. For example, in Italy this holiday is o the 19^th of March.

On this day children visit their fathers, grate them for everything they have done for them and make some presents. It is a good tradition to present red roses to fathers. And, of course, after giving the gifts, the family has a nice dinner.
