International Internet Day is celebrated on the day of the death of Saint Isidore of Seville, the patron saint of pupils and students. The medieval archbishop created the first ever encyclopedia Etymologiae in 20 volumes.

The first computer network ARPANET was created in the 1960s. The first ARPANET server was installed on September 2, 1969 at the University of California (Los Angeles). October 29, 1969 between the first two nodes of the ARPANET, located at a distance of 640 km - at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) - held a communication session.

In 1988, the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) protocol was created, which made it possible to communicate on the network in real time. In 1989, within the walls of the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN), the concept of the World Wide Web was born, which was proposed by the famous British scientist Tim Berners-Lee.

Over the course of two years, Tim Berners-Lee developed the HTTP protocol, the HTML language, and URIs. A year later, for the first time, they connected to the Internet using a telephone line. By 1991, the World Wide Web had become public on the Internet.

The standard for www (World Wide Web) pages was also approved in 1991, and two years later the famous NCSA Mosaic web browser appeared.
