22nd of September – World Carfree Day

World Carfree Day, celebrated annually on September 22 in many countries, is held to promote the idea of walking, cycling, and using public transport.

The main motto of the Day: "City as a space for people, a space for life."

Too many cars are not only a problem in big cities. This problem has been global for a long time. After all, vehicles destroy both the biosphere of the planet and the person himself - it is estimated that every day a car kills more than 3,000 people. And every minute a brand new "killer car" comes off the assembly line - such is the statistics.

With all this, the pace of production continues to grow: the car is one of the first places among the most advertised goods.

The tradition of a Car-Free Day began in England in 1997 and took place in France a year later. Then this day was celebrated by only about two dozen cities. But by 2001 more than a thousand cities in 35 countries of the world had officially joined the movement. Currently, according to rough estimates, more than 100 million people in 1.5 thousand cities of the world participate in this activity every year.

Realizing that in modern conditions it is simply impossible to completely abandon cars, the heads of cities and heads of various organizations want to remind the public of the problems that vehicles bring with them. At least once a year.

Major cities in many countries on this day reduce the use of cars for city travel in favor of tram, trolleybus, bus, metro, and other forms of public transport, as well as bicycles and walking. In some cities, specially organized events are also held on this day.

Also, within the celebrations of the Day, environmental educational, and interactive events are held in various Russian cities: bike rides, show programs, interactive games, sports attractions, mini-football matches, test drives of eco-friendly vehicles, and much more.

VeronikaLove advises you to leave your car not only today but in your every day like! A bicycle is a wonderful replacement that both save nature and also helps you be healthy. But if you can't, at least have a healthy ride this day and remember that we all keep our planet healthy.
