19th of June – World Walking Day

A very unusual holiday and very relevant for people living in the frantic rhythm of the modern world - International Walking Day - is celebrated in mid-June.

So, International Walking Day, or Slow Walking Day, is a holiday that calls to appreciate the importance of such a seemingly obvious, but forgotten by many, way to relax, relieve stress or just nervous tension, like a walk.

For many people living in modern cities, aim reality has set top rates of life, which cannot but affect the state of the nervous system. Statistics show with confidence that systematic stress and depression have already become a stable characteristic of the nervous system of city residents.

Not wanting to slow down the pace of life and redefine priorities, many seek to solve these problems with medication. Fortunately, in recent years, sports enthusiasm and pursuiting a healthy lifestyle have been gaining popularity. One of the most effective ways to deal with stress, oddly enough, is the usual walk in the park or forest, going out into nature.

It was the desire to emphasize the importance and accessibility of this simple way to distract at least for a short time from the problems and fuss that pushed the initiators and activists to celebrate the International Day of Walk every year. It is in June, when warm sunny weather already prevails, conducive to walks in the fresh air.

According to another version, the date of the holiday June 19 was chosen because it was on this day that it was first held in the 1970s in the US state of Michigan. The founder of the holiday W.T. Rabe proposed Walking Day in response to popular jogging, deliberately emphasizing his desire to slow down the already fast pace of life.

Proponents of Walking Day celebrate appeal to all mankind, suggesting not only on this day, but to go out into nature as often as possible and spend at least a little time there - this is a great way for solitude and pacification or friendly conversation.

To the merits of walking, supporters of the holiday consider its accessibility for everyone, since you only need to allocate time (with a psychological attitude not "to the detriment of business", but "for the benefit of health"), and also to decide on a place, although even in cities there are enough squares and parks, not to mention the suburbs. This method of recreation does not require any material costs, and the benefits of it will more than pay off the time spent. Walking will not only help relieve stress, but will also be a good stimulator of attention, memory and brain activity, improve appetite and normalize sleep.
