31st of August – Blog Day

Eight years ago, active LiveJournal users somehow saw numbers in the word blog - 3108. In such a funny way, the date of the Blog Day was chosen.

The initiators of the holiday urge to devote this day to meeting friends from different countries and with different interests. To do this, it is customary to write short reviews on five different blogs and publish these entries on August 31 with links to the author's pages. It is believed that it is best to write on this day about blogs that are at odds with the author's sphere of ordinary interests, his point of view and life position, so that both the user and visitors to his page will discover something new for themselves.

Many people liked this idea very much. And when the holiday was celebrated for the first time on August 31, 30 thousand new pages appeared in the Google search engine at once.

Just two years later, in connection with this date, the competition of the best blogs, which is held by the newspaper "Deutsche Welle", began. Publications in ten languages can participate in it. These languages are English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, German, Dutch, Persian, Portuguese, French and Russian.

Today, the blogosphere is the fastest growing part of the Internet, which has recently seen an almost threefold increase in a year. There are 75 million blogs in the world, and according to one of the search engines, there are more than 2 million unique addresses.
In our country, there are author pages on LiveJournal, the audience of which amounts to tens and hundreds of thousands of readers a day. In fact, blogs are a social network and in the near future may become a weighty alternative to traditional mass media.

Also, for the author of the blog, there is his own professional day - the International Day of the Blogger, which has been celebrated on June 14 since 2004. This holiday is considered a symbol of friendship between LiveJournal users from different countries. On June 14, every blogger can publish on his page a message about solidarity with other authors of Internet diaries.

Anyway, have you ever asked your lady about her blogs? She might be a great blogger and writes great blogs, so you can congratulate her with her Special Day, sending her a sweet gift, for instance.
